The Wonder of Bai Yan Qigong
Bai Yan Qigong was introduced to me by Raymond and Christine in year 2010. At that time, I have no idea what Qigong is all about. To me Qigong is simply an exercise for old people because Qigong movement is slow and soft, suitable for old and weak people. Young and stronger people can pick up sports game, jogging, swimming and etc as a form of exercise for good health.
I was 45 years old and considered myself healthy, but whenever I met up with Raymond who has already practiced Qigong for 2 years, he would strongly recommend me to join Qigong. Raymond always shared with me the benefits of Bai Yan Qigong and how most student health change to better after practicing Qigong. Despite several times of invitations from Raymond, I was reluctant to join simply because I don’t have time to practice and to get up early for Sunday Group Practice is impossible to do. But deep inside me, I do notice the sincerity of Raymond.
In June 2010, out of curiosity, I decided to join Da Yan beginner class just to find out what is so great about this Qigong. On the first day, while queuing up for registration, I noticed that there were about one hundred fifty people came for the class. I also saw about 10 persons wearing red Bai Yan T-shirt busy preparing all necessary things before the class begin. I was surprised when I heard that all the red shirt fellow s are actually Senior Student (Zhu Jiao or Teaching Assistance), that have already practice Qigong for sometime and they actually volunteer to help without getting any benefit back. These people are also normal working people and most of them are married with children. I started to ponder,” Why these people are so willing to sacrifice their valuable time on weekend and choose to be here to help?” As I looked closer, I noticed that they are always smiling even while attending to some rude new students. Further more, their face complexions were bright and glowing, their body figure were slim and fit. I told myself, “This is healthy body. What makes these Zhu Jiao so kind and loving? This must be the right Qigong class for me.” I started to have more confidence towards Bai Yan Qigong.
When Master Yan kuan appeared on stage, I was shocked to see such a young and pleasant looking Qigong Master. My impression on Qigong Master is someone old with long beard. He not only spoke loud and clear, his teaching was simple and easy to understand. Master Yan kuan was very alert during the class, he knew when to go slow when he thinks some students were having difficulty to follow. He would tell jokes to keep everybody relax and interested. I don’t remember there was any bored moment during the class.
The second day was very exciting day for everybody because Master Yan kuan will emit Qi to all students. I was told “Emit Qi” is like sending energy wave out from Master to students. The receivers will response with all kinds of body reactions like jumping, crying, laughing, shouting, and all kinds of body movement. These body reactions are reflecting our body Qi disorder that could be due to pass injury or sicknesses. The moment Master Yan kuan emitted Qi , I felt there was a strong force enter into my body and I started to sway my hip in circular motion. The movements went from slow to fast and continue for about 5 minutes. When it finally stopped, both my hands started to hit my legs and lower back. After the class, I felt my whole body very much softer even though I was exhausted. On the following day, the lower back pain that I suffer for years has reduced tremendously. It was like miracle to me because I have tried many Chinese Practitioners and physio therapy but my back problem never really cured completely. Surprisingly, with the Qi I received from Master, the pain just gone without having to take medicine. My curiosity about Qigong began to grow stronger and stronger.
Due to my interest in Qigong, I was very discipline when come to practice Qigong. I practiced at least one session every day. Each session is about 1 hour and the seemingly impossible task to do which is to get up early morning to join Sunday Group Practice has never a problem to me. Even my family members were surprised that I could give up watching my favorite live soccer games on Saturday night just to sleep early and get up early to for Sunday Group Practice.
With the hard work that I put in, on the 45 days of practicing Da Yan Qong, I was able to generate my inner Qi to a level that the Qi will guide me doing certain movements that can heal my body. Another words, wherever there is blockage in the body, the Qi will help to unblock it. Hence, the sickness will naturally be healed. Within 3 months, I managed to lose 3 KG and my waist size reduced from 36 inches to 34 inches. My face complexion became bright, skin became so much smoother especially my face. Dead skin started to peal off and replace with nice and soft skin. The funny thing was I have tried a few attempts to stop smoking for the last 10 years but failed, but after practicing Qigong for about one month, I was able to successfully quit smoking without much difficulty. This was the turning point of my life. My confidence grew even stronger.
Without any hesitations, I continue to sign up for any Bai Yan Qigong class available in Malaysia. Within 6 months time, I managed to complete 4 classes (Da Yan Beginner & Intermediate and Hui Chuen Beginner & Intermediate). As I gained more and more experience and knowledge about Qigong, I realized that I was able to discharge the negative energy even more, a lot of white foam, mucus, and phlegm discharged from my body during practice. This could be due to the toxic accumulated from my 20 years of smoking cigarette. I felt like the Qi was going in deeper to heal my body.
Apart from teaching practical Qigong, Master Yuan Kuan also explained many useful theories related to healthy body and mind in his class. He often used real life story to emphasize his point so that the students will take Qigong seriously. It was from Master’s well explained teaching during the class that I became more aware of my food intake and lifestyle. According to Master Bai Yan, in order to live a good quality and happy life, we should strengthen our inner Qi. On top of that, we should also know how to balance our food intake. Healthy lifestyle is also the key factor to maintain good health. This is the path of a wise man. That is why, a serious Qigong practitioner naturally will not take cold drink, he or she sleeps early and wakes up early.
As my body gradually changes to better, my life has also starting to change without me realizing it. I started to spend more time with Qigong friends, I found Qigong friends are kind and happy people. They always say positive and encourage words. I also learned a lot of moral conduct from them. One example was during the Emit Qi session, these Zhu Jiao and Volunteers will go round to take care of every student’s safety. They will provide more than enough tissue paper for every one to clean their face and the floor. It was a really touching experience and loving moment for each and everyone.
In January 2011, I became a volunteer in Qigong class because I was determined to repay the benefits that I got from the Zhu Jiao and Qigong friends. I was really grateful to all Zhu Jiao and Volunteers that helped me during my classes. They worked tirelessly to assist Master from setting up the hall, sound systems, chairs, to cleaning of floor and toilets. They were the first to arrive and the last to leave the class. So I felt the best way to show my gratitude to Maters and Zhu Jiao is to serve others.
My first experience as a volunteer was really special one, I was assigned to take student’s photo and clean male toilet. Since I was really excited to help and serve others, I brought 4 sets of cleaning utensils, some toilet rolls, tissue papers and 3 bottles of home-boil drinking water to the class. I have to take 120 new students photo shots in one hour. When the class began, we have to stay alert and focus at all times, this is to train us to be ready to serve Master or student whenever we are needed. When the class finally over, I was totally exhausted physically and mentally. The funny thing to me was, despite all the hard work and sacrifices, I was actually feeling happy, and there was a lot of joy arisen in me. I could not understand why? But every time when I saw someone need help, I would not think twice to help. I noticed whenever I serve others, I immediately felt good.
As I continue to walk this Qigong path, my heart became softer and more loving towards my family members. I started to appreciate things that I have, appreciate my Masters, my parents, my family, my friends, and most importantly, I started to find my thru “self”. I began to understand the meaning of “Life” and what is the purpose of life? To me the purpose of my life is to help others without expecting anything back. To be able to love others unconditionally. To have compassion and loving kindness towards other beings. The best place to start practice is thru Bai Yan Qigong.
In June 2012, I was chosen to be a Zhu Jiao (Teaching Assistant), it was a really pleasant surprise to me because both Master Yan Kuan and Master Bai Yan have faith in me. To become a Zhu Jiao is real achievement to me but I knew it is just the starting point of my life. I should take this wonderful opportunity to serve and help others. With Master Yan Kuan and Master Bai Yan’s leadership and guidance, I am sure many more people from different parts of the world will be able to benefit and experience the wonder of Bai Yan Qigong.
I like to take this opportunity to thank both Master Yan Kuan and Master Bai Yan for their selfless teaching and their unconditional love towards each of every one of fellow students. My gratitude to them for giving me a good platform and support to practice generosity, love, compassion and kindness towards other. Also, special thanks to all Taiwanese and Malaysian Zhu Jiao and volunteers who served tirelessly through out all the lessons that I was in. Lastly, I would like to thank my good friend Raymond who introduced this life changing Bai Yan Qigong to me. May all of you be well, peaceful and happy.
